Wow. I’ve learned so much in just five days about what it means to be a wife. I’ve learned so much about life, about ministry, about God’s love for me, and I’ve especially learned a lot about Kelsey! I was always confident that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him, and now that’s been confirmed one-hundred fold. It’s not because he’s perfect-none of us are perfect. It’s because he makes me want to be better and because he consistently shows me the love of Jesus. This is the best adventure yet (I know, we’re only 5 days in and there will be days where we want to throw each other into a freezing lake), but God has been so faithful to us so far, and we know that the best is yet to come! So with nothing left to do, here are some things that I’ve learned in my 5 days of being married.
1. I think every wife is curious about her husband’s tendencies at this stage of marriage. If she see’s something she doesn’t necessarily like or doesn’t see something she’d prefer to see, it can be so easy to nag. Trust that his mom did a great job of raising him, and that he knows exactly what he’s doing. I think my track record is pretty good, don’t think I’ve nagged Kelsey at all so far! He’s so happy, and I intend to keep him that way.
2. Everything is a learning experience set up by God. I’m not kidding. Everything we’ve learned and experienced on the way to Asheville, in Asheville, and even from Asheville was a God-ordained learning experience! He’s so faithful! And the learning has continued on into our lives together post-honeymoon.
3. The little things mean the most. I know that a lot of things have sentimental value for us right now because everything is so new, but it’s such an amazing feeling! To a couple that’s been together for a while, buying two bowls to eat cereal out of isn’t a big deal. But for us, they were our first additions to our little clan, and it’s a big deal! Corny we know, but we’re (me more than him) so excited! The way he smiles at me in the morning and calls me beautiful, the way he holds my hand everywhere we go. It’s a magical feeling and we’re so thankful to God for it all.
4. Having someone to pray with, believe God with, and have faith to dream big with is by far one of the most powerful things in this earth. You can’t do life alone; marriage and friendship are God’s way of guarding against that. When marriage and friendship exist between two people and God is in the midst, literally nothing can stop their faith.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 : 9Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. 10For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion.
That’s all for now folks! Pray for us on our journey!
Love,
Ashley,
